CBT For Cancer on Skype
Clare Reed
CBT for Cancer Therapist
Jo's s Story with CBT for Cancer
"My friend recommended me to Clare as I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and really needed help fast. I was panicking over all the decisions that were being made for me and losing a lot of sleep after the diagnosis. My work were really supportive of my treatment plan and I organised to have my CBT sessions at work before I left for the day, as I really had no energy to go to an office for therapy, I was constantly exhausted. Clare's format really is fantastic. She has put so much effort into the app she uses alongside Skype and even when I was in hospital I could access the techniques, which was brilliant. Looking back on the therapy I used at 3 different locations for the therapy, home, work and on a chemo pause holiday to Croatia! The flexibility is so important I don' t think I realised it at the time when I started working with Clare how important the flexibility is, she made my life easy when it was really tough."
CBT On Skype - All you Need to Know
I have been seeing clients on Skype for years. It really took off six years ago, alongside my old CBT office practice. Now in 2018 it is standard practice. I guess Skype has become a household name!
Skype is great when you have Cancer, as it means you don't have to go trekking across town to the therapy office, you can do the session with me from the comfort of your own home, or even bed, as some of my clients choose to do on bad days. When you have cancer, energy conserving is a must, and being able to do this therapy at home will go a long way towards conserving that precious resource.
Also, it is important to protect your immune system when white blood cell counts are low during Cancer treatment. Being face to face with someone in a small therapy room can be a recipe for disaster, as a minor cold for a healthy person can be pneumonia for a Cancer patient!
When I was working in my CBT practice during my own Cancer treatment last year I was so grateful that I could work from my lovely garden office, in fact I didn't get a single cold or cough all of last year, even when my white blood cell count was at its lowest! You have to be paranoid about avoiding germs and viruses when you have Cancer, as do any loved ones that you may live with.
Furthermore, I don't care if you sit in your pyjamas, on the couch, in the kitchen, or in bed, I expect you to be comfortable at all times and this makes your CBT more effective!
Using Skype you will get to see me on the screen and you can share your video with me for a real face to face session. But you don't have to share your video if you don't want to, as I understand that sometimes my clients like to have more privacy, and not turn on their video, particularly if they are in pain. I also use a fabulous app that stores your worksheets, tools and techniques in one safe, secure place, that you can access 24/7 on any device so you are never without your techniques. There is no need to print things out, as I am big believer in eliminating paper waste, all worksheets are filled in on the app so I can review them before each session - simple!
Skype is easy to use and has just the same CBT efficacy rate as being in a therapy office. If you need to set it up for the first time here is their link. (Also if you prefer you can use another video conferencing software of your preference such as BlueJeans, Zoom etc)
I look forward to seeing you for CBT on Skype soon!
CBT On Skype - All you Need to Know
I have worked with clients with CBT by Skype throughout the last decade in practice, as it is just as effective as being in an office. Skype really took off for me, in a big way six years ago, alongside my old CBT city office practice. Now, in 2018, it is standard practice for therapists everywhere to use. I guess Skype has become a household name! I am flexible though, as some clients prefer to use other similar technology, such as Google Hangouts, Blue Jeans, Zoon, Go to Meeting etc, I can switch depending on your requirements.
